Double down day dress 👗

Onlangs durfde ik het aan een kleedje voor mezelf te maken. En nu die drempel is overwonnen, ging ik opnieuw voor een ‘selfish-sewing’-project!

Enkele weken terug kwam ik het ‘double-down-day-dress’-patroon van Ragamuffin (https://littleragamuffin.com/product/double-day-dress-pdf-pattern/) tegen en had meteen het idee dat dit een model was dat wel bij mij past. De accenten zitten op de juiste plaatsen, terwijl het ook op de juiste plekken ‘camoufleert’. Van zodra ik het zag, wist ik dat ik het ooit wel eens zou maken voor mezelf.

In mijn stoffenvoorraad lag al lange tijd een streepjesstof die ik een tweetal jaar terug kocht op een stoffenspektakel, toen al met het idee er iets voor mezelf mee te maken. Maar ook nu weer toch nog wel die twijfel: ‘Een nieuw patroon én een streepjesstof, is dat niet teveel van het goede ineens?’ Maar kom, soms moet je eens een risico durven nemen…

Afgaand op de maattabel koos ik ervoor een medium te maken. Achteraf gezien had ik beter een small gemaakt, want in de taille heb ik het kleedje, met hulp van mijn mama ❤️, best nog wel wat versmald…

Het ‘matchen’ van de strepen lukte wel aardig. Ik moest daardoor wel kiezen voor de optie ‘mini’, terwijl ik eigenlijk wou gaan voor de optie ‘above knee’. Ik had schrik dat ‘mini’ wat kort zou zijn voor mij, maar gelukkig ben ik zelf ook klein van gestalte en is het uiteindelijke resultaat toch lang genoeg 😄

Recently I dared to make myself a dress for the very first time. And now I have overcome my fear, I went for a brand new ‘selfish sewing’-project!

A few weeks ago I came across Ragamuffins Double-down-day-dress (https://littleragamuffin.com/product/double-day-dress-pdf-pattern/) and immediately knew this was a model that would suit me well. It accentuates the right places, while it also ‘camouflages’ where I like it.

In my fabric stash was a striped knit I bought on a fabric market two years ago, already with the intention back then to use it on a dress for me.

But once again I had doubts:’Trying out a new pattern, and using a striped fabric to do so??’ But hey, you should take a risk every now and then, don’t you?

Based on the size chart I made myself a medium. In retrospect, I had better chosen ‘small’ since I took it in quite a bit at the waist, with a little help of my mom ❤️

The ‘matching’ of the stripes also worked out well! Because of the stripes I had to make the ‘mini-option’ instead of the ‘above-the-knee-option’. I was afraid this would be to short for me and I would feel uncomfortable with it. But fortunately I myself am small in stature, so the result is still okay 👌
