Tamara top & dress

Ok, ik denk dat ik de smaak te pakken heb. Nadat het maak-zelf-de-kleren-van-je-kinderen-virus mij overviel, heb ik nu ook de probeer-eens-wat-te-maken-voor-jezelf-microbe beet…
En toevallig komen er dan ook nog eens interessante test-oproepen, dus ja…

Het begon allemaal met de oproep tot testen van een eenvoudige top, zonder mouwen of met korte mouwen, van Annelaine patterns. En ik dacht: hé, de zomer komt eraan, dus topjes kunnen altijd dienen. Bovendien zijn topjes in de winkel vaak te kort naar mijn zin. En als je zelf naait, kies je natuurlijk zelf hoe lang je zo’n topje maakt… Daarenboven was dit topje gebaseerd op de Tammy-jurk van Annelaine patterns, die ik een tijd terug voor Laure maakte. Deze is diep uitgesneden op de rug, met al dan niet gekruiste bandjes om het af te werken. De Tammy (https://mijn11jesenik.wordpress.com/2018/02/14/be-curious-tammy/) die ik maakte, zag er zo uit :

Dus meldde ik me aan.
Ik mocht mee testen, en ging aan de slag. De eerste versie ga ik hier niet tonen, want die was echt niet voor publicatie vatbaar… Dat lag deels aan een foute stofkeuze, deels aan het patroon. Feit was dat deze top als een zak om mij heen hing, te diep uitgesneden was onder de oksel, en ook nog eens niet mooi aansloot bovenaan.
Eerst dacht ik even “Ligt het aan mij?” maar al gauw bleek dat de mede-testers gelijkaardige dingen postten.

Geen nood, het patroon werd aangepast, want zo gaat het nu eenmaal met testen, en op naar versie 2!
Bij versie 2 zag alles er al een pak beter uit. Maar toch stond het nog niet echt op punt…
Voor versie twee koos ik voor een kleurrijke stof (die ideaal is om mee te testen, want ik zag er geen andere bestemmingen meer voor) en koos ik opnieuw voor een mouwloze top, met vooraan een ondiepe en achteraan een diepe halsuitsnijding. Je kan dit desgewenst dus ook andersom dragen, met de rug aan de voorkant en vice versa.
Dit werd het resultaat:

Heb de schoudernaden nog heel wat moeten innemen om valse nepen onder de oksel weg te werken, en ook de pasvorm stond naar mijn gevoel nog niet op punt.

Er volgden nog wat meer kleine aanpassingen, en voor de finale versie ging ik dan maar voor een topje met korte mouwen, misschien lag dat me beter?
Dit patroon is een dolman-top, en dus naai je de mouwen er niet apart aan. Ik verwachtte daardoor nog meer nepen waar ik er geen wou, maar ben achteraf best tevreden over het resultaat:

En toen leek er een einde te komen aan deze test. Tot de patroonmaakster op zoek ging naar een naam. Initieel was dit de Elouise-top, maar toen er werd geopperd het om te dopen tot de Tamara-top, de volwassen versie van Tammy, de jurk waarop deze was geïnspireerd, kwam er een nieuwe wending in de zaak: wat als we er nu eens een extraatje insteken en er ook een hoog-laag rokdeel aan toevoegen? Met mogelijkheid tot in de naad ingewerkte zakken? En “fladder”mouwen? En lange mouwen? Of een peplum-top?

Benieuwd naar wat dit zou geven, ging ik dus verder met de test en naaide ik de Tamara-jurk. Ik koos voor een medium halslijn vooraan en een diepe neklijn op de rug, met bandjes. Verder koos ik deze keer voor een korte mouw mét “flutter”, de hoog-laagversie voor de rok en een hoge taille. Het kleedje naaide ik deze keer in een punta-di-roma-stof van Driessen en ik ben er helemaal weg van! (http://www.driessenstoffen.nl/shop/-4-per-meter/punta-di-roma-flower-2/)
Niet in het minst omdat deze stof kreukvrij is en dus niet gestreken hoeft te worden!
Dit kleedje oogt mooi, zeker met de bandjes op de rug, die je overigens ook gekruist kan plaatsen. De “fladder”mouw geeft het een extra vrouwelijk tintje. En ook het hoog-laaggegeven vind ik een leuk effect hebben. Ik voegde ook zakken toe, nog een bijkomend extraatje in dit patroon.
Dit kleedje zal deze zomer zeker en vast geregeld gedragen worden! Hij zit als gegoten!

Ik ben er vrij zeker van dat er nog zullen volgen!
Het was fijn om deel uit te maken van deze patroontest, omdat ik op deze manier heel mooi heb kunnen volgen hoe het uitgroeide van een redelijk doordeweeks niemendalletje tot een must-have-patroon met veel mogelijkheden.

So, next to the make-your-own-kids-clothes-virus, now the try-to-make-something-for-yourself-microbes have caught me…

And then all of these interesting test calls came along, …

It all started with the call to test a simple top, without sleeves or with short sleeves, from Annelaine patterns. And I thought: hey, summer is coming, so tops can always serve. Moreover, tops in the store are often too short for my liking. And if you sew it yourself, you can choose the lenght of your shirts … On top of this, this shirt was based on the Tammy-dress by Annelaine patterns, which I had made a while back for Laure. This dress has a deep neckline on the back, with or without crossed straps to finish it off. The Tammy (https://mijn11jesenik.wordpress.com/2018/02/14/be-curious-tammy/) that I made looked like this:

So I applied.

I was allowed to test, and went to work. I will not show the first version here, because it really was not available for publication … That was partly due to a wrong choice of fabric, partly to the pattern itself. The shirt looked very ‘baggy’ on me, was too deeply cut under the armpit, and also did not fit nicely at the top, with lots of pleats.

At first, I was thinking I had done something wrong. But soon enough co-testers came up with similar posts.

No problem. The pattern was adjusted, because that’s the way it goes with testing, and on to version 2!

With version 2 everything looked a lot better. But still it was not really ready …

For version two I chose a colorful fabric (which is ideal to test with, because I did not see any other destinations for it) and I chose a sleeveless top again, with a shallow front and a deep neckline at the back. You can also wear it the other way around, with the back on front and vice versa.

This was the result:

I have to admit: I wasn’t blown away by it… Mainly because of the fabric this time.

I did have to redo the shoulder seams to get rid of false pleats under the armpit, and the fit was not perfect in my opinion.

There were some more minor adjustments, and for the final version I went for a short sleeved top, maybe that was better for me?

This pattern is a dolman top, so you do not sew the sleeves on separately. I therefore expected more pleats where I did not want them, but I was happy with the result afterwards:

And then it seemed this test was coming to an end. Until the pattern maker started looking for a name. Initially this was the Elouise top, but when the suggestion came in to name it the Tamara top, the adult version of the Tammy-dress for girls – the dress on which it was inspired – a new direction came into play: what if we add an extra and add a high-low skirt? With the possibility of pockets embedded in the seam? And “flutter” sleeves? And long sleeves? Or a peplum top?

Curious about what would be happening next, I continued with the test and sewed the Tamara dress. I chose a medium neckline at the front and a deep neckline on the back, with 3 straps. Furthermore, this time I chose a short sleeve with “flutter”, the high-low version for the skirt and a high waist. I used a punta-di-roma fabric by Driessen and I absolutely love it! (http://www.driessenstoffen.nl/shop/-4-per-meter/punta-di-roma-flower-2/) Not in the least because this fabric is wrinkle free and therefore does not need to be ironed!

This dress looks beautiful, especially with the straps on the back, which you can also place crossed. The “flutter” sleeve gives it an extra feminine touch. And I also think the high-low skirt has a really nice effect. I also added pockets, another extra in this pattern.

This dress will certainly be worn regularly this summer! It fits like a glove! I did grade it a little bit in the waist. The dress I made was a size 8, but has a size 4 waistline. But I haven’t made any other adjustments. It is really easy to put together!

I am absolutely sure that more of these will follow! It was nice to be part of this pattern test, because this way I was able to follow how this pattern grew from a reasonably plain shirt to a must-have pattern with many possibilities.
