Sailor tunic

Ellie & Mac heeft al heel wat pdf-patronen in de aanbieding, en deze worden momenteel ook allemaal ge-update. Ik mocht deelnemen aan het updaten van de “girls sailor peplum & dress” en kreeg de tuniek met korte mouwen, maat 7 jaar toegewezen.

Deelnemen aan zo’n update is best fijn, omdat je weet dat het patroon dan eigenlijk wel op punt zou moeten staan, en er hooguit wat ‘finetuning’ nodig is.
Je kan dus gewoon meteen met de stoffen aan de slag die je in gedachten had.

Wanneer je dit patroon met korte mouwen maakt, is het redelijk voor de hand liggend. Wanneer je de mouwloze versie maakt, gebruik je de ‘burrito-methode’. Als je dit nog nooit eerder gebruikte: dit is een leuk patroontje om je naaitechnieken mee bij te schaven! Echt moeilijk is het niet, en eens je het kent, gebruik je het vaak (ik spreek uit ervaring)

Het moeilijkste aan dit patroon is de neklijn. Dat is even wat denkwerk. De uitleg in het patroon zet je hierbij goed op weg, en als je al één en ander genaaid hebt kan je eigenlijk naar eigen inzicht ook wel verder. Maar voor een absolute beginner kan het misschien eventjes verwarring zaaien. Gewoon doen, want al met al ziet het er moeilijker uit dan het is!

Ellie & Mac already has a lot of PDF patterns to offer, and they are being updated at the moment. I was allowed to participate in updating the “Girl’s sailor peplum & dress” and was asked to sew the short-sleeved tunic, size 7 years.

Participating in such an update is quite nice, because you know that the pattern should actually be on the point, and at most, some ‘fine tuning’ is needed.
You can therefore immediately start with the fabrics you had in mind.

When you make this pattern with short sleeves, it is fairly obvious. When you make the sleeveless version, use the ‘burrito method’. If you have never used this before: this is a nice pattern to improve your sewing techniques! It is not really difficult, and once you know it, you use it often (I speak from experience)

The hardest part of this pattern is the neckline. That is just a bit of thinking (but don’t overthink it). The explanation in the pattern puts you well on track, and if you have already sewn before, you can actually proceed on your own. But for an absolute beginner it might be a bit confusing. Just do it, because all in all it looks harder than it is!
