Jersey Skirt

Alweer een test voor Ellie&Mac afgerond. Deze keer geen kleedje of shirt, maar een rok!
Mijn dochters dragen eigenlijk voornamelijk kleedjes, dus een rokje vind ik zelf een aangename afwisseling 🙂

Het leuke aan dit tricot-patroontje is dat het een “zakdoek”model heeft. Dat wil zeggen: dit rokje heeft geen rechte zoom, zoals bij een rimpelrok of ronde zoom zoals bij een cirkelrok. De rok valt in ‘hoeken’, zodat je mooie punten krijgt, die voor een origineel visueel effect zorgen. Je zou kunnen zeggen dat het een cirkelrok is, maar dan gemaakt met rechthoeken in plaats van cirkels. Of is dit wartaal? Ik laat jullie gewoon zien wat ik bedoel (beelden zeggen steeds meer dan woorden)!

My daughters actually wear mainly dresses, so I think a skirt is a nice change 🙂
The nice thing about this pattern is that it has a “handkerchief” model. That is, this skirt does not have a straight hem, as with a gathered skirt or round hem, as with a circle skirt. The skirt falls in ‘corners’, so that you get beautiful points, which provide an original visual effect. You could say that it is a circle skirt, but then made with rectangles instead of circles. Or is this gibberish? I just show you what I mean (images always say more than words)!

Zoals je ziet, is er ook een versie voor dames.

Ik maakte er twee, en maakte er telkens ook een bijpassende t-shirt bij. Voor de t-shirts koos ik de Discoverer Tee van Ellie&Mac, omdat je voor een tof colourblocking effect kan gaan op die manier. De Discoverer Tee wordt binnenkort trouwens gerereleased (momenteel draait een testteam omtrent de revisie van dit patroon).

Deze maakte ik als ‘oefenversie’, met een stofje dat al jaren in mijn kast ligt te liggen. Ik vond er nooit een bestemming voor. Hoewel ik het frisgroene kleurtje wel kan smaken (of ligt dat aan de appeltjes die erop staan?), toch vond ik het tot op heden telkens wat te fel ogen. Tegenwoordig zit Laure echter in een kleurrijke periode en is de boodschap: “hoe feller en kleurrijker, hoe liever”. Ideaal dus om het patroon in een eerste fase met dit stofje uit te testen. Hieronder zien jullie het resultaat, maat 7 jaar, verlengd tot 8 jaar. De zwarte tricot (eerder een soort van lycra) liet ik de zoom ongemoeid.

I made two, and also made a matching t-shirt. For the t-shirts I chose the Discoverer Tee from Ellie & Mac, because you can go for a great color blocking effect that way. The Discoverer Tee will soon be re-released (a test team is currently revolving around the revision of this pattern).

I made this green one as a ‘practice version’, with a fabric that has been lying in my closet for years. I never found a destination for it. Although I like the fresh green color, I kept finding it a bit too bright to date. These days, however, Laure is in a colorful period and the message is: “the brighter and more colorful, the better”. Ideal for testing the pattern with this fabric in a first phase. Below you see the result, size 7 years, extended to 8 years. The black jersey (rather a kind of lycra) I left unhemmed.

Voor mijn uiteindelijke versie bleef ik wat in de paassfeer en koos ik voor de ‘framed animals’ van Qjutie Kids Collection, aangekocht bij Stoffenelf.
Ik combineerde opnieuw met een Discoverer Tee waar ik voor een colourblock-effect ging met een bordeaux uni-jersey. Deze keer maakte ik maat 5 jaar, verlengd tot 6 jaar.
Ik werkte het setje af met een Be-Posh haarband.

For my final version, I stayed a bit in the Easter mood and chose the ‘framed animals’ from Qjutie Kids Collection, purchased from Stoffenelf.
I combined again with a Discoverer Tee where I opted for a color-block effect with a burgundy uni-jersey. This time I made size 5 years, extended to 6 years.
I finished the set with a Be-Posh headband.

Dit patroon is niet moeilijk en zit op korte tijd in elkaar. Wat ik meeneem naar komende projecten is het rimpelen aan de hand elastiek. Vooraleer je de heupband aan het rokje zet, werk je het rokdeel bovenaan af met doorzichtige elastiekband (framilon). Door deze uit te rekken terwijl je de rekker vaststikt, zorgt die automatisch voor rimpels. Geen gedoe met rimpeldraden achteraf, heerlijk! En als je de rekker net als de rokdelen mooi verdeeld in kwarten, zijn de rimpels ook heel netjes en gelijkmatig verdeeld. Zo past alles ook perfect op de heupband, en hoef je daar dus niet meer te gaan rekken. En bovendien zorgt de rekker voor extra stabiliteit, zodat dit rokje, wat al naargelang de gebruikte stof toch net iets zwaarder weegt, netjes om de heup blijft zitten en niet afzakt. Yes!

This pattern is not difficult and is put together in a short time. What I am bringing to upcoming projects is gathering with elasticbands! Before putting the waistband on the skirt, you finish the skirt part at the top with a transparent elastic band (framilon). By stretching it while you stitch the elastic cord, it automatically causes wrinkles. No hassle with gathering threads afterwards, delicious! And if you divide the elastic band just like the skirt parts nicely into quarters, the gathers are also very neat and evenly distributed. This way everything fits perfectly on the waistband, so you don’t have to stretch anymore while sewing it on. Moreover, the elastic provides extra stability, so that this skirt, which, depending on the fabric used, weighs slightly heavier, stays neatly around the hip and does not sag. Yes!
