Reverie SAL

Er stond heel wat naaiwerk op mijn to-do-lijstje, want ik werk momenteel aan twee tests, maar mijn schone zus drong aan… En ik liet me dus overhalen 🙂

There was a lot of sewing on my to-do list, because I am currently working on two tests, but my sister in law insisted … And so I let myself be persuaded 🙂

In de FB-groep “Naaien met pdf-patronen” loopt deze week de sew-a-long voor de Reverie Dress van Goober Pea Designs, met Claudia Broos-Paulie als gastvrouw. Goober Pea Designs kende ik al van de regenjasjes die ik voor mijn dametjes naaide vorig jaar, met het patroon van de Campbell Jacket & Vest. Dat patroon zal binnenkort ook opnieuw uit de kast worden gehaald, want uiteraard zijn ze stilaan uit die jasjes gegroeid… De ervaringen met hun patronen was dus al positief, en de foto’s van de Reverie Dress als teaser zagen er ook zo leuk uit… Dus ging ik overstag.
Hier kan je dag na dag volgen wat ik heb gedaan en wat er nog komen gaat.

In the FB group “Sewing with PDF patterns”, the sew-a-long for the Reverie Dress by Goober Pea Designs is running this week, with Claudia Broos-Paulie as hostess. I already knew Goober Pea Designs from the rain jackets that I sewed for my little ladies last year, with the pattern of the Campbell Jacket & Vest. That pattern will soon be taken out of the closet again, because of course they have gradually grown out of those jackets … So the experiences with their patterns were already positive, and the pictures of the Reverie Dress as a teaser also looked so nice. .. So I tacked.
Here you can follow day after day what I have done and what is to come.

DAG 1: Patroon printen, plakken, knippen en stof kiezen en wassen. (31-05-2019)

Ik kocht zowel de Reverie Dress als de Sadie Skirt, omdat je beiden kan gaan combineren en beiden bijgevolg ook met korting verkrijgbaar waren. De Reverie heeft een gerimpelde rok, maar de Sadie Skirt geeft je de mogelijkheid om met een cirkelrok te werken. Beiden komen aan bod in de sew-a-long. Dat leidde me meteen naar een dilemma: welk model ga ik maken? Draaikleedjes zijn natuurlijk helemaal in… Maar dat betekent wel extra printwerk én ik heb in tussentijd besloten om voor beide dochters wat te naaien… Uiteindelijk dan toch maar bij het originele patroon gebleven, maar wel met het idee om voor de rok te gaan voor een combinatie van de korte rok (net boven de knie) met de ‘tea’versie tot net onder de knie.
Als stoffen koos ik voor een kleurrijke Megan Blue stof met donkerblauwe achtergrond (wat minder snel vuil wordt). Hanne koos voor een uni-roze tricot om mee te combineren, Laure voor een warmgele unitricot. Allen gekocht in de webshop van Naaiplezier.nl.

I bought both the Reverie Dress and the Sadie Skirt, because you can combine both and therefore both were also available with a discount. The Reverie has a gathered skirt, but the Sadie Skirt gives you the opportunity to work with a circle skirt. Both are discussed in the sew-a-long. That immediately led me to a dilemma: which model will I make? Both my girls completely love twirly dresses … But that means extra printing and in the meantime I have decided to sew something for both daughters … Eventually I stayed with the original pattern, but with the idea to go for a combination of the short skirt (just above the knee) with the ‘tea’ version (just below the knee).
As fabrics I opted for a colorful Megan Blue fabric with a dark blue background (which is less likely to get dirty). Hanne chose a uni-pink jersey to combine with, Laure a warm yellow uni-jersey.

Ik knipte vandaag, zoals het hoort, de patroondelen voor de twee jurken die ik zal gaan maken. Ik voerde wel een kleine ‘hack’ op het patroon uit, want ik verknipte het achterpand. De bedoeling? De onderrok zal ik in de uni-stoffen gaan maken, en ik wou dus graag de heupband en de schouderbanden ook in die contrastkleuren. De schouderbanden zitten vast aan het achterpand, maar het hele achterlijf in 1 kleur vond ik dan weer saai en de overgang naar de rok dan nogal grof. Ik hou er ook niet zo van de je opzij dan vooraan en achteraan met dat contrast zit. Dus het achterpand knipte ik door. De bovenkant, met de schouderbanden, knipte ik uit de uni-stofjes, de onderkant uit de zelfde stof als het bovenste rokdeel.

Today I cut, as it should be, the pattern parts for the two dresses that I will make. I did a little ‘hack’ on the pattern, because I cut the back in two pieces. Intention? I will make the underskirt in the uni-fabrics, and so I wanted the hip band and shoulder straps also in those contrasting colors. The shoulder straps are attached to the backbodice, but I found the entire bodice in the back in 1 color boring and the transition to the skirt rather coarse. I also don’t like it when you see the contrast of the front and back on the side. So I cut the back in two pieces. The top, with the shoulder straps, I cut out of the plain fabrics, the bottom from the same fabric as the upper skirt part.

Vandaag liep ik wat vooruit, of ook weer niet…
Omdat ik ervoor koos om twee kleedjes te maken, naaide ik vandaag het ene bovenlijfje (dus meer dan wat eigenlijk hoefde), en morgen doe ik dan het andere (zoals het dus eigenlijk hoort).
Dat vind ik toch wel het fijne aan zo’n sew-a-long: je beslist helemaal zelf wat lukt en wat niet, en maakt al dan niet gebruik van de inhaaldagen. Het is ook ideaal om een volledig kledingstuk af te werken binnen een beperkte tijd, ook al ben je beperkt in tijd… Tijdens werkweken is er immers niet zo erg veel tijd om even te gaan zitten en iets te naaien. Maar hier en daar eens een kwartier of twintig minuten, dat lukt nog net 🙂

Today I was a little ahead, or not …
Because I chose to make two dresses, I sewed one bodice today (more than what was actually required), and tomorrow I will do the other (as it should be).
I think that’s the great thing about a sew-a-long: you decide for yourself what works and what doesn’t, and you make use of the catch-up days or not. It is also ideal to finish a complete piece of clothing within a limited time, even if you are limited in time … After all, during working weeks there is not that much time to sit down and sew something. But here and there for fifteen or twenty minutes, that’s possible 🙂

Ik kan het bijna niet geloven dat het lukte! Ik naaide maar liefst twee kleedjes in een drukke werkweek en met nog twee patroontests op mijn programma… Nooit gedacht dat ik al die zaken kon combineren, maar hé, I did it! Ik kon wel niet helemaal het voorgestelde schema volgen, maar ben wel tijdig klaar!

I can’t believe I was able to do this within the deadline! I have sewn two Reverie-dresses during a crazy busy workweek with two pattern-tests on my schedule as well! Never thought I would make it and combine all those things, but hey, I did it! Wasn’t able to entirely follow the suggested timeline, but got it all ready in time for this SAL!
