Selfish sewing: part 2

Op mijn als-ik-eens-tijd-heb-wil-ik-dit-patroon-wel-eens-naaien-lijstje stond ook al enige tijd de Paris Day Dress van Rebecca Page Patterns.
Dit jurkje leek me heel erg passend bij Hanne. En zij vroeg me al enige tijd om een kleedje dat eens wat langer valt. Ik vermoedde dat dit kleedje ook een leuke ‘twirl’factor had, en dus ging ik ermee aan de slag tijdens mijn, door mezelf uitgeroepen, ‘selfish-sewing’-maand.

I’ve had the Paris Day Dress by Rebecca Page Patterns on my if-I-find-the-time-I-want-to-sew-this-pattern-list for some time.
This dress seemed very appropriate to Hanne. And she had been asking me for some time for a dress that would fall longer, but not like a maxi-dress. I suspected that this dress also had a nice “twirl” factor, so I started working on it during my self-named “selfish-sewing” month.

Ik koos voor een overschot stof die ik onlangs gebruikte om mijn Summer pinspiration met een patroon van Ellie&Mac te realiseren, een prachtige zalmroze lycra. Dat kleur vind ik telkens weer zo mooi staan bij Hanne met haar wit-blonde lokken…

I chose a surplus of fabric that I recently used to create my Summer pinspiration with an Ellie & Mac pattern, a beautiful salmon pink lycra. I always find that color matches so beautiful with Hanne’s white-blonde hair locks …

En het resultaat was precies zoals ik het voor ogen had! Wat was het lang geleden dat ik eens een kledingstuk naaide in een uni-kleurige stof! Daardoor komt het patroon helemaal tot zijn recht. De twirlfactor is inderdaad prachtig en de kleur staat haar zo mooi… Sinds hij af is, droeg ze hem bijna continu. Van de wasmachine terug naar haar.
De lycra zorgt ervoor dat het jurkje ook mooi doorvalt.

The result was exactly as I had it in mind! It was far too long ago, sewing a piece of clothing in a uni-colored fabric! By working in one color, the beauty of this pattern is fully reflected. The twirl factor is indeed beautiful and the color looks so beautiful on her … Ever since it’s finished, she has been wearing it almost continuously. From the washing machine back to her.
The lycra ensures that the dress drapes so nicely, without pulling it down to much.

Wel kwam er heel wat rimpelwerk bij kijken, en moest ik de onderste laag uit drie delen knippen in plaats van twee omdat ik met een restje stof werkte. Maar als ik zie hoe ze nu met veel plezier haar kleedje draagt, was het me dat rimpelwerkje wel helemaal waard!

A lot of gathering was involved, however, and I had to cut the bottom layer out of three parts instead of two because I worked with a left-over piece of fabric. But when I see how she now happily wears her dress, it was completely worth it to me!

Dit kleedje heeft nog heel wat andere opties:
– het rokdeel kan je in 1 deel maken en aanrimpelen, of in drie aangerimpelde lagen. Ik koos voor het laatste. Het kleedje valt net onder de knie.
– je hebt de keuze uit twee neklijnen: boothals of ronde halslijn. Ik koos voor ronde hals.
– Je kan kiezen voor normaal ingezette mouwen of pofmouwen in verschillende lengtes van kort over drie-kwart naar lang of kapmouwtjes. Ik koos hier voor kapmouwtjes.
– het patroon is bedoeld voor rekbare stoffen.
– Een handleiding met stap-voor-stap-instructies zit bij het patroon.
– het patroon gaat van pasgeborene tot 12 jaar.

Goed nieuws: er is ook een damesversie beschikbaar, voor wie houdt van mommy-and-me-outfits!

This dress has several options:

• A gathered dress that is easy to sew and even easier to wear
• Casual and comfortable
