Vorig jaar testte ik mee voor de Be Creative Sweater voor kinderen van Ellie&Mac. Het is een patroon dat ik sedert dien nog opnieuw gebruikte, omdat het zo’n leuke manier is om restjes te verwerken… De voorbije maand testte ik mee aan de versie voor dames, en hier toon ik jullie graag het resultaat!
Last year I was one of the lucky testers for the Be Creative Sweater for kids by Ellie&Mac. It’s a pattern that I have used again and again, because it’s such a fun way to use up those left-overs when you clean up your scraps-bin… The past few weeks I was testing the Be Creative Sweater for Women, and I can finally share my results!
Deze trui heeft heel wat opties. De meest opvallende is de keuze tussen een sjaalkraag of een kap. Je kan variëren in lengtes voor de mouwen, gaande van een korte pofmouw, een korte omgezoomde mouw of een lange mouw met mouwboorden. Ook qua lengte van het kledingstuk heb je de mogelijkheid ofwel shirtlengte ofwel tunieklengte te maken. In de afwerking kan je ook nog heel wat doen om het kledingstuk je eigen persoonlijke touch te geven.
This sweater has a lot of options. The most striking is the choice between a cowl or a hood. You can vary in lengths for the sleeves, ranging from a short puffed sleeve, a short hemmed sleeve or a long sleeve with cuffs. You also have the option of making either shirt length or tunic length in terms of length of the garment. In the finish you can also do a lot to give the garment your own personal touch.
Dit is mijn eerste versie. Ik gebruikte hier een french terry die ik al enige tijd in mijn voorraad had. Als afwerking gebruikte ik een sierbandje dat ik over het voorpand heen stikte op de naad, voor ik de zijnaden sloot. De achterkant moest ik verknippen om alles nog uit mijn restje stof te krijgen, maar is dus normaalgezien in 1 bovendeel (en dus niet met een naad op de middenrug zoals bij mij. Ik draag zelden hoodies, dus koos ik voor de kraag.
This is my first version. I used a French terry here that I had in my inventory for some time. As a finishing touch I used a decorative band that I stitched over the front on the seam before closing the side seams. I had to cut the back to get everything out of my leftover fabric, but is normally in one upper part (and not with a seam on the middle back like me. I rarely wear hoodies, so I chose the cowl.
Voor mijn tweede versie gebruikte ik een stofje dat ik pas recent had gekocht, maar dat ideaal was om wat colorblocking toe te passen. Het bovenste deel van voor- en achterpand, de mouwboorden en de heupboord knipte ik uit contrasterende stof. Ik ging opnieuw voor de versie met de kraag.
Vooral het detail op de mouw vind ik tof. Deze sierrand liep over het paneel, en ik koos ervoor om de mouw dus tegen de draadrichting in te knippen om die sierband in de lengte van mijn mouw te verkrijgen. Dat gaf mijn trui een iets sportievere look and feel.
For my second version I used a fabric that I had recently purchased, but which was ideal for applying some color blocking. I cut the upper part of the front and back panel, the cuffs and the waistband, from contrasting fabric. I opted for the cowl once more.
I especially like the detail on the sleeve. This decorative border ran over the panel, so I chose to cut the sleeve against the grainline to obtain that decorative strip along the length of my sleeve. That gave my sweater a slightly sportier look and feel.

Dit patroon zit snel in elkaar, is ideaal om wat reststukken te verwerken en je kan naar hartelust colorblocken. Deze keer koos ik voor tricots, maar je kan gerust ook sweatstof gaan gebruiken om een meer winterse versie te creëren. Deze twee truien kan ik alvast goed gebruiken komende herfst.
This pattern is quickly put together, is ideal for processing some residual pieces and you can colorblock to your heart’s content. This time I chose jerseys, but you can also use sweat fabric to create a more winterly version. These two sweaters will become handy for the upcoming fall.
