Ik had mezelf voorgenomen om nooit zelf badpakken en zwempakken te naaien. Je koopt er immers makkelijk eentje in eender welke winkel, en je hebt er speciale stof voor nodig. Al heel wat tests en patronen zag ik de revue passeren. Maar onlangs kocht ik toch een lycra badpakstofje (want ja, het zag er toch leuk uit?) en toen kwam er een oproep van Annelaine Patterns om een zwempak uit te testen… Tja, dus toch maar overstag gegaan 🙂

I intended to never sew bathing suits and swimsuits myself. After all, you can easily buy one in any store, and you need special material for it. I have already seen quite a few tests and patterns. But recently I bought a lycra swimsuit fabric (because well, it did look nice…) And then a call came from Annelaine Patterns to test a swimsuit … Well, so I decided to go with the flow… 🙂

Dit zwempak komt er in drie pasvormen: een gewoon badpak, of een twee-delig badpak. Bij de versie met zwemslip en bikini kan je dan nog gaan kiezen tussen een ‘zedig’ topje, dat tot de navel komt, en een kortere versie die iets minder verhullend is.
Op de rug heb je drie opties: gesloten, open rug met bandjes of dieper uitgesneden rugopening met twee of drie bandjes.
Dit is een volledig gevoerd badpak, dus netjes afgewerkt, en geen naden zichtbaar.
Wat dit badpak extra bijzonder maakt, ten opzichte van andere patronen? De schouderbandjes. Die zijn door middel van brede elastiekband gerimpeld. Het elastiek zorgt er ook voor dat ze mooi aansluiten, en niet van de schouder afglijden.

This swimsuit comes in three fits: an ordinary bathing suit, or a two-piece bathing suit. In the version with swim briefs and bikini you can still choose between a ‘modest’ top that nearly reaches the belly button, and a shorter version that is slightly less concealing.
On the back you have three options: closed, open back with straps or deeper cut back opening with two or three straps.
This is a fully lined bathing suit, so neatly finished, and no seams visible.
What makes this swimsuit extra special compared to other patterns? The shoulder straps. They are wrinkled with a wide elastic band. The elastic also ensures that they fit nicely and do not slip off the shoulder.

Het moeilijkste aan dit patroon? Eigenlijk niets. Werken met badpakstof is misschien even wennen, want dit is vrij glad, maar makkelijk op te lossen door wat meer speldjes te gebruiken. En verder is het vooral even opletten bij het kiezen van de maat. Ga niet af op de standaardmaten van badpakken die je in de winkel koopt! Meet nauwkeurig de borstomtrek, taille en heupen. Verder meet je ook de lengte van het bovenlijf (meten vanaf de nek (net boven de schouderlijn) tussen de benen door naar de bovenkant van het borstbeen). Gebruik deze maten om te bepalen welke maten je afdrukt en knipt. Ga niet louter af op hoe groot jouw dochter is! Sommige kinderen hebben nu eenmaal een kort bovenlijf en langere benen, en net andersom.
In de handleiding is uitleg met duidelijke tekeningen en voorbeelden voorzien om je te begeleiden bij het aanpassen van het patroon aan de maten van jouw kind. Laat je hier zeker niet door afschrikken. Dat klinkt veel werk, maar stelt eigenlijk niet zo veel voor!

The hardest thing about this pattern? Actually nothing. Working with bathing suit fabric may take some getting used to, because this is fairly smooth, but easy to solve by using a few more pins. And furthermore, paying particular attention when choosing the size. Do not go by the standard sizes of bathing suits that you buy in the store! Accurately measure the chest circumference, waist and hips. You also measure the length of the upper body (measuring from the neck (just above the shoulder line) between the legs to the top of the breastbone). Use these sizes to determine which sizes you print and cut. Don’t just go by how big your daughter is! Some children have a short upper body and longer legs, and the other way around.
The manual contains explanations with clear drawings and examples to guide you in adjusting the pattern to the dimensions of your child. Certainly don’t be put off by this. It sounds like a lot of work, but it actually doesn’t represent that much!

Ik maakte in dezelfde stof ook een tweede set, voor mijn oudste, deze keer tweedelig. Er waren echter nog enkele aanpassingen nadien, dus die haalde de promo-foto’s niet… Ik deel hier even de foto’s van mijn eerste pasbeurt. Bij de uiteindelijke versie zijn de taillebanden breder en is het broekje nog vrij drastisch aangepast, voor een betere pasvorm. Ik had net voldoende stof om twee tops te maken. Ok ok, ik knipte eerst verkeerd, en besloot toen om twee van de top-versies te maken. De eerste is de ‘standaard versie’, een korte top. De tweede een ‘sobere versie’, die dus iets meer huid toedekt, maar dan wel weer toelaat om met een uitgesneden rug en bandjes te werken.

I also made a second set in the same fabric, for my oldest, this time two-pieced. There were, however, a few adjustments afterwards, so they did not make the promo photos … I am sharing the photos of my first fit here. In the final version, the waistbands are wider and the pants are still fairly drastically adjusted for a better fit. I just had enough fabric to make two tops. Ok ok, first I made a mistake cutting my fabrics, and then decided to make two of the top versions. The first is the ‘standard version’, a short top. The second a ‘modest version’, which covers a bit more skin, but then again allows you to work with a cut back and straps.

Uiteindelijk maakte ik nog een derde set, ook twee-delig, om de definitieve pasvorm uit te testen. Alle onzuiverheden werden uit het patroon weggewerkt, en nu zit ook dit tweedelige zwempak als gegoten!
Deze keer kwam de stof van stoffen.net.

Finally I made a third set, also two-pieced, to test the final fit. All the impurities were removed from the pattern, and now this two-piece swimsuit is also perfect!

Na de slaapkleedjes voor mijn dametjes ging ik ook aan de slag met het nieuwste pyjamapatroon van Annelaine de “Lights out lounge”-pyjama. Ik had er nog een leuk prinses-op-de-erwt-stofje voor in de kast liggen.

After the sleeping garments for my ladies I also started with the latest pajama pattern by Annelaine the “Lights out lounge” pajamas. I had a nice princess-on-the-pea fabric on hand.

Ik knipte het pyjamashirt uit deze stof, en de broek maakte ik uit een bijpassende groene tricot. Ik koos voor de versie met lange mouwen met een mouwboord. De broek heeft een gewone zoom onderaan, en een tunnel met rekker die zorgt voor een elastische taille. Ik maakte maatje 5 jaar voor mijn 5-jarige. Volgens de maattabel mocht de taille van de broek maat 4 jaar zijn, maar om inkt te sparen bij het printen, drukte ik enkel maat 5 af. Door de rekker bovenin maakt het ook niet erg veel uit en een pyjamabroek mag ruim en comfortabel zijn.

Dit is een patroon dat ook voor beginners zeker en vast een haalbare kaart is! Het moeilijkste is de nekboord aanzetten. Je kan er ook voor kiezen de mouwboorden weg te laten en de mouwuiteinden gewoon eenvoudig om te zomen.
In de facebookgroep werd ook een handige tip gepost voor het aanzetten van de mouwboorden!

I cut out the pajama shirt from this fabric, and I made the pants out of a matching green cotton jersey. I opted for the long-sleeved version with cuffs. The pants have a regular hem at the bottom, and a tunnel with elastic band that creates an elastic waist. I made size five for my 5-year-old. According to the size chart, the waist of the pants had to be size 4, but to save ink when printing, I only printed size 5. Because of the elastic in the waist, it does not matter too much and a pajama pants can be spacious and comfortable.

This is a pattern that is definitely a viable card for beginners too! The hardest thing is to attach the neckband. You can also choose to leave the sleeve cuffs off and simply hem the sleeve ends.
The facebook group also posted a handy tip for sewing the sleeve cuffs!
