Sinds kort test ik patronen van Little Lizard King. Ik had al eerder met hun patronen gewerkt, maar nog nooit eerder meegedraaid in testing daar. Wat een toffe testomgeving! Iedereen is er super positief, en er is veel ruimte voor feedback. Als tester voel je je in ieder geval erg gewaardeerd en betrokken.

Recently I started testing patterns from Little Lizard King. I had worked with their patterns before but had never been involved in testing there before. What a great test environment! Everyone is very positive and nice, and there is a lot of room for feedback. In any case, as a tester you feel very appreciated and involved.

Nadat ik mee testte voor de Sinclair romper (een super tof patroontje, binnenkort meer daarover, ik zit wat achterop…), nam ik deel aan de test voor het Glastonbury patroon. En dat zowel voor kinderen als volwassenen.
Het leukste aan dit patroon? Dat je er meteen een hele outfit mee naait, want het bestaat uit een top en een rok. Voor de top kies je uit crop top of normale shirt en kan je gaan voor een simpele versie of een versie met een vals knopenpad. Voor de rok kan je dan weer uit lengte midi (halfweg de kuit) of maxi (tot op de enkel) kiezen, en ook daar kies je voor een eenvoudig model of een model met 1 of 2 ruches onderin.

After I tested for the Sinclair romper (a super cool pattern, more about that soon, I’m a bit behind …), I took part in the test for the Glastonbury pattern. And that for both children and adults.
The best thing about this pattern? That you immediately sew a whole outfit with it, because it consists of a top and a skirt. For the top you choose from crop top or regular shirt and you can go for a simple version or a version with a faux placket. For the skirt you can choose midi length (mid-calf) or maxi (to the ankle), and you can also choose between a simple model or a model with 1 or 2 ruffles at the bottom.

Voor mijn 9-jarige dochter, toch al echt een pré-tiener, maakte ik de crop top. De eenvoudige versie zonder knopenpad. De pasvorm is perfect, en het naait ook vlotjes. De nekboord en mouwboord zijn aangestikt met de ‘binding’methode (wie-o-wie kent de correcte Nederlandse benaming hiervoor?). Het topje is uiteraard in een rekbaar stofje, in mijn geval een eenvoudige, muntgroene jersey tricot. Ik naaide maat 7 jaar, verlengd tot maat 8 jaar.

For my 9-year-old daughter, already a pre-teen, I made the crop top. The simple version without button placket. The fit is perfect, and it sews smoothly too. The neckband and sleeve bands are stitched with the ‘binding’ method. The top is of course in a stretchy fabric, in my case a simple, mint green jersey. I sewed size 7 years, extended to size 8 years.

De rok is gemaakt van geweven stof, en dus niet rekbaar. Ik gebruikte een viscose. Ook hier ging ik voor de eenvoudigste versie. Je naait de zijnaden en vervolgens zet je de heupboord er aan. In die boord verwerk je een dikke elastische band. Ook daar maakte ik maatje 7 jaar, verlengd tot 8 jaar.

The skirt is made of woven fabric, so it is not stretchy. I used a viscose. Here too I went for the simplest version. You sew the side seams and then you put the waistband on. You process a thick elastic band in the waistband. There I also made size 7 years, extended to 8 years.

Voor mijn 7-jarige maakte ik de top in t-shirt lengte, en mét vals knopenpad. Deze keer in maatje 6 jaar, verlengd tot 7 jaar. Voor de rok koos ik de versie met 1 gerimpelde laag onderin. Je kan ook een versie met dubbele ruche maken.

For my 7-year-old I made the top in t-shirt length, and with faux placket. This time in size 6 years, extended to 7 years. For the skirt I chose the version with 1 gathered layer at the bottom. You can also make a double ruffle version.

Ik vind het heerlijk dat ik met 1 patroon twee verschillende outfits kan maken. Doordat je dezelfde stoffen gebruikt, matchen ze mooi, maar toch is het net even wat anders. Dat levert ook een leuke reeks foto’s op 🙂
De kat wou ook graag even mee op de foto…

I love that I can make two different outfits with one pattern. Because you can use the same fabrics, they match nicely, but are still slightly different. That also produces a nice series of photos 🙂

Ten slotte maakte ik ook de versie voor dames. De top, met vals knopenpad in crop top lengte, maakte ik in maatje 8. De rok maakte ik in maatje 12, maar lengte maat 8. Ik koos hier opnieuw voor 1 ruche onderaan. Als ik eens tijd te veel heb, maak ik er een top in t-shirtlengte bij, want met de crop top voel ik me niet helemaal in mijn sas 😉

Finally, I also made the version for ladies. The top, with false button placket in crop top length, I made in size 8. I made the skirt in size 12, but length size 8. I again chose 1 ruffle at the bottom. If I have too much time on my hands, I will make a top in t-shirt length, because with the crop top I do not feel completely comfortable 😉

Not So Basic Pants – straight cut

Zoals jullie weten, geraakte ik helemaal in de ban van de Not So Basic Pants. Heerlijk hoe je in een half uur tijd stof kan knippen én verwerken tot een broek, die dan ook nog eens heerlijk zit!

For those following my blog or IG, as you know, I fell under the spell of the Not So Basic Pants. Wonderful how you can cut and process fabric into well fitted trousers in half an hour!

De Not So Basic Pants biedt twee opties: legging style en wide pants style. Beiden leuk, maar ik wou ook graag een versie met minder brede pijpen. Dus ging ik met het patroon aan de slag. Ik nam het patroondeel van de versie met wijde pijpen, en hertekende de binnenbeennaad. Aan beide kanten van het patroondeel nam ik heel wat van de breedte af, zonder bovenaan het patroondeel iets te wijzigen. Op de foto hieronder stellen de blauwe lijnen de nieuwe binnenbeennaad voor. Aan de achterzijde markeerde ik in de zoom 10 cm (3.5″) en toen vouwde ik het patroondeel terug vanaf het kruis tot de markering, langs de blauwe lijn. Aan de voorzijde markeerde ik 12 cm (4.5″) en vouwde het patroondeel langs de blauwe lijn eveneens om. Het aangepaste patroondeel legde ik op mijn dubbelgevouwen stof, en ik knipte dit dus gespiegeld. Aan de bovenzijde veranderde er niets, dus ook de heupboord kon ik gewoon knippen zoals het originele patroon voorziet.

The Not So Basic Pants offers two options: legging style and wide pants style. Both nice, but I also wanted a version with less wide legs. So I hacked the pattern and am now going to show you how I did it.

I took the pattern part of the wide leg version and redesigned the inseam. On both sides of the pattern part I took a lot of the width, without changing anything at the top of the pattern part. In the photo below, the blue lines represent the new inseam.
At the back I marked 10 cm (3.5 “) in the hem and then I folded the pattern piece back from the crotch to the marking, along the blue line. At the front, I marked 12 cm (4.5”) and folded back the pattern piece along the blue line also. I placed the modified pattern piece on my folded fabric, so I cut two mirrored pieces (as you normally would). Nothing changed at the top, so I was able to cut the waistband exactly like the original pattern provides.

Na een geslaagde test, dook ik mijn voorraad in, en vond daar nog een stukje marineblauwe Broekstretchstof van stoffen.net.
Deze rekt slechts twee-zijdig en niet vier-zijdig, zoals het patroon aanraadt. Ik zorgde ervoor dat de rek in de breedte zat, en niet in de lengte, en zoals je kan zien werkte dat prima!

After a successful muslin, I dug into my stock and found another piece of navy blue stretch stretch fabric from stoffen.net.

It only stretches two-sided and not four-sided, as the pattern recommends. I made sure that the stretch was in width, not length, and as you can see it worked great!

Ik ben heel blij met mijn nieuwe broek! Geen sluitingen, zit heerlijk en de pijpen minder breed, dus makkelijker om bijvoorbeeld mee te fietsen.

Rea – Bel’Etoile

Woohoow! Een nieuw patroon van Bel’Etoile, en ik mocht mee testen! Nog beter: dit is een gratis patroon!

De Rea-jurk is een heel eenvoudig kleedje, sober van snit en perfect voor de lente en zomer! Je kan het kleedje zowel in rekbare als in niet-rekbare stof maken. Wanneer je rekbare stoffen gebruikt, is het aan te raden een maat kleiner te nemen.

Ik ging aan de slag met viscose crêpe van stoffen.net.

Het is een rechtdoor-jurk met keuze tussen een V-hals of een ronde hals. Ik koos voor de V-hals. Je kan de jurk los dragen, of met een striklint in de taille, zodat je de bovenkant wat kan ‘blousen’. Ik ben meer fan van het dragen met striklint, maar ook zonder vind ik deze jurk best geslaagd.

Woohoow! A new pattern from Bel’Etoile, and I was allowed to test! Even better: this is a free pattern!

The Rea dress is a very simple dress, sober in cut and perfect for spring and summer! You can make the dress in sknit or woven fabric. When you use knits, it is recommended to size down one size.

I worked with viscose crepe from stoffen.net.

It is a straight dress with a choice between a V-neck or a round neck. I chose the V-neck. You can wear the dress loose, or with a tie at the waist, so that you can ‘blouse’ the top. I am more a fan of wearing it with a tie, but I think this dress is a success without it too.

De halslijn en de zoom worden afgewerkt met een beleg, zodat je de mooie vormen van de V-hals en de inkeping van de zoom in de zijnaad zonder veel moeite kan bekomen.

Wel even opletten: naadwaarde is niet inbegrepen, dus vergeet niet het patroon even door te nemen en hier bij het knippen rekening mee te houden!

Het kleedje is niet bedoeld om nauw aansluitend te zijn. Het valt eerder los, en bijgevolg heerlijk luchtig.

The neckline and hem are finished with a trim, so that you can get the beautiful shapes of the V-neck and the notch of the hem in the side seam without much effort.

Please note: seam value is not included, so do not forget to go through the pattern instructions and take this into account when cutting!

The dress is not intended to be tight-fitting. It’s rather loose, and therefore wonderfully light and airy.

Nu velen onder ons noodgedwongen binnen moeten blijven, verwacht ik binnenkort een ‘boom’ aan Rea-kleedjes te zien op sociale media!

Now that many of us are forced to stay indoors, I expect to see a ‘tree’ of Rea dresses on social media soon!

Marzipan

Candy Castle Patterns heeft een nieuw patroon uit, dat perfect is voor deze tijd van het jaar, wanneer het buiten koud is en met feestdagen voor de deur!
De Marzipan Mix&Match Tunic and Dress heeft een pak leuke opties waaruit je kan kiezen.
Naast de lengte (tuniek of kleedje), kan je kiezen voor lange, 3/4 of korte mouwen, al dan niet met een fronsje aan de schouders. Je kan een gewone nekboord aanzetten, of je kiest voor de hoge kraag. Je kan het geheel nog verder opsmukken met striklinten, mouwboordje met of zonder duimgaatjes en ten slotte heb je de keuze om al dan niet zakken te voorzien.
Met je stofkeuze geef je het kledingstuk verder richting. Een zomers jurkje met normale nekboord en korte mouwen in een dunne tricot, een winterse tuniek met lange mouwen en hoge kraag in een sweaterstof of een gekleed jurkje met een feestelijker stofje: het kan allemaal!

The Marzipan Mix & Match Tunic and Dress has a lot of fun options to choose from.
In addition to the length (tunic or dress), you can opt for long, 3/4 or short sleeves, with or without a ruffle on the shoulders. You can put on a neckband, or you opt for the cowl neck. You can embellish the whole even further with bow ties, cuffs with or without thumb holes and finally you have the choice whether or not to provide pockets.
With your choice of fabric you give the garment further direction. A summery dress with a normal neckband and short sleeves in a thin jersey, a wintery tunic with long sleeves and a cowl in a sweater fabric or a dressy dress with a more festive fabric: it’s all possible!

Ik maakte twee winterse versies, telkens maatje 6 jaar, verlengd tot maatje 7 jaar.

I made two versions, both in size 6, lengthened to size 7.

Voor de eerste versie koos ik een mooie zalmroze french terry met glitters erin, die ik vele jaren geleden kocht bij Veritas. De kraag is een gewone tricot. Dit is tunieklengte, mét zakken. Een zeer draagbaar tuniekje, dat ze meteen aankon om naar school te gaan.

For the first version I chose a beautiful salmon pink French Terry with glitter in it, which I bought from Veritas many years ago. The cowl is a regular jersey. This is tunic length, with pockets. A very wearable tunic that she started wearing immediately to go to school.

Voor de tweede versie haalde ik een mooi paneelstofje boven uit de Wild Shadows collectie van Lycklig Designs dat ik kocht via de webshop van Droomstoffen.nl. (Niet meer beschikbaar)
Deze keer wel een hoge kraag en striklinten, maar geen zakken. Door de eenvoudige snit komt het paneeltje mooi tot zijn recht. Deze tuniek kan nog steeds naar school aan, maar oogt meteen al een pak feestelijker, en kan dus ook perfect dienen tijdens de feestdagen die eraan komen!

For my second version I picked out a nice panel fabric from the Wild Shadows collection of Lycklig Designs that I bought via the Droomstoffen.nl webshop. (No longer available)
This time a cowl and bow ties, but no pockets. The simple cut makes the panel stand out nicely. This tunic can still be worn to school, but immediately looks a lot more festive, and can therefore also serve perfectly during the upcoming holidays!

Deze zomer naaide ik de Little Fizzers Dress, ideaal voor zonnige zomerdagen. Maar deze Marzipan Dress wordt zeker en vast een vast onderdeel van onze wintergarderobe!

This summer I sewed the Little Fizzers Dress, ideal for sunny summer days. But this Marzipan Dress will definitely become a permanent part of our winter wardrobe!

Ready to party!

Ik maakte onlangs de Play Date Jurk van Ellie&Mac, met de kerstperiode en bijhorende feestjes in gedachten. Dit patroon zat al zo lang in mijn mapje met Ellie&Mac patronen, maar ik kwam er nog nooit eerder aan toe om het te gaan maken…
De naam laat vermoeden dat dit een alledaags kleedje is om in te spelen. Dit is inderdaad een zeer draagbaar kleedje, maar persoonlijk vind ik dit patroon vooral ook zeer geschikt voor feestelijke kleedjes. Veel hangt natuurlijk af van de stof die je kiest.

I recently made the Play Date Dress by Ellie & Mac, with the Christmas period and accompanying parties in mind. This pattern has been in my folder with Ellie & Mac patterns for so long, but I have never had time to make it …
The name suggests that this is an everyday dress to play in. This is indeed a very wearable dress, but personally I find this pattern especially suitable for festive dresses. A lot of course depends on the material you choose.

Dit is ook een van de weinige patronen in mijn bezit die bedoeld is om geweven katoen te combineren met rekbaar tricot. Het lijfje is gemaakt van t-shirtstof, terwijl het rokdeel een katoentje is. De afwerking met de band en strik achteraan, geeft dit patroon voor mij een ‘gekleed’ uitzicht.

This is also one of the few patterns in my possession that is meant to combine woven cotton with stretchy jersey. The bodice is made of t-shirt fabric, while the skirt part is a cotton woven fabric. The finish with the band and bow at the back gives this pattern a ‘dressy’ look for me.

Het maken van dit kleedje levert geen problemen op, het is allemaal zeer voor de hand liggend, en laat zich dus behoorlijk vlot in elkaar steken. De grootste moeilijkheid is het aanrimpelen van de rok (om maar te zeggen dat het eigenlijk een eenvoudig modelletje is).

Making this dress does not cause any problems, it is all very obvious, and can therefore be put together quite easily. The biggest difficulty is gathering the skirt (to say it’s actually a simple model).

Ik ben persoonlijk niet zo’n fan van de aangerimpelde mouwboord, dus ging ik even snuisteren in mijn patronen, op zoek naar een mouwboord die wat meer uitwaaiert. Dat vond ik in het Be Adventurous patroon van Ellie&Mac. Ik printte enkel dit deeltje uit in dezelfde maat als de rest van het jurkje (maat 6, verlengd tot maat 7) en kon dit probleemloos aan het mouwdeel vastzetten.

Personally, I am not a fan of the gathered cuffs, so I started browsing my patterns, looking for a cuff with a bit more ‘flare’. I found that in the Be Adventurous pattern by Ellie & Mac. I only printed this part of the sleeve in the same size as the rest of the dress (size 6, lengthened to size 7) and could easily attach it to the sleeve part.

Voor mijn versie koos ik voor een roze tricot voor het lijfje, zwart tricot voor de band en een katoentje van Stenzo Textiles dat al jaren in mijn voorraad lag te wachten op een leuk project. Deze aangerimpelde rok, die je dus eerst als rechthoek knipt, leent zich perfect voor katoenen paneeltjes met een boord-print.

For my version I opted for a pink jersey for the bodice, black jersey for the band and a cotton from Stenzo Textiles that had been waiting in my inventory for years for a nice project . This gathered skirt, which you first cut as a rectangle, is perfect for cotton panels with a border print.

Toch al eentje klaar voor de er aan komende feestelijkheden!
