Ik toonde jullie onlangs al mijn zomers geïnspireerde (of moet ik gepinspireerde zeggen?) 24/7-top, maar tijdens mijn zoektochten langs webshops kwam ik natuurlijk nog wel meer inspirerende kledingstukken tegen…

I recently showed you all my summer-inspired (or should I say pinspired?) 24/7 top, but during my searches through web shops I naturally came across more inspiring items of clothing …

Onder meer deze jurk deed me onmiddellijk denken aan het Cape Cod patroon van Ellie&Mac, vanwege de afwerking aan de halslijn.
Maar… het Cape Cod patroon is een patroon voor kinderen tot 14 jaar, daar hoor ik al even niet meer bij, én bovendien is dat het patroon voor een zwempak…

Among other things, this dress immediately reminded me of the Cape Cod pattern by Ellie & Mac, because of the finish on the neckline.
But … the Cape Cod pattern is a pattern for children up to the age of 14, I don’t belong there anymore, and moreover that is the pattern for a swimsuit …

Toch bleef het in mijn hoofd hangen… Zou het doenbaar zijn om van de grootst beschikbare maat een maatje S te maken?
Tja, je raadt het al, ik deed een poging 🙂

Well, you guessed it, I made an effort 🙂

Zo ging ik te werk…

This is what I did…

POGING 1/TRY-OUT 1

Ik koos het patroon van het Breezy kleedje van Ellie&Mac als basis, en printte de grootste maat van het Cape Cod patroon. Dat legde ik over het patroondeel voor de top van de Breezy heen. Met wat patroonpapier tekende ik de contouren van het Breezy kleedje over, maar aan de halslijn paste ik de Cape Cod halslijn in.

I chose the pattern of the Breezy dress from Ellie & Mac as the basis, and printed the largest size of the Cape Cod pattern. I put that over the pattern part for the top of the Breezy. With some patternpaper I drew the contours of the Breezy dress, but fitted the Cape Cod neckline on the neckline.

 

Nadien deed ik ongeveer hetzelfde met het achterpand voor het bovenlijf. Ik nam als basis de top van de Breezy jurk, en legde het achterpand van de Cape Cod eroverheen. Opnieuw volgde ik de contouren van de Breezy, en paste de neklijn aan, om zo een open rug te verkrijgen.

Afterwards I did about the same with the back of the torso. I took the top of the Breezy dress as a base, and laid the Cape Cod back over it. Again I followed the contours of the Breezy, and adjusted the neckline, to get an open back.

En toen ging ik aan de slag… Ik volgde voor de top de instructies uit de handleiding van het Cape Cod patroon, en voor het rokdeel eenvoudigweg die van de Breezy jurk.
Zo kwam mijn testversie tot stand, en daar was ik al behoorlijk tevreden mee.

And then I got to work … I followed the instructions from the Cape Cod pattern manual for the top, and simply proceeded with the Breezy dress for the skirt part.
This is how my test version came about, and I was already quite satisfied with that.

 

POGING 2/TRY-OUT 2

Het kleedje dat ik gebruikte ter inspiratie heeft natuurlijk wel korte mouwen…
Dus besloot ik om ook dit uit te testen. Hier onder zie je met foto’s en uitleg hoe ik te werk ging…

The dress I was trying to recreate is short-sleeved. So I decided to attempt a short-sleeved version too. I’ll show you with pictures and info how I went about it.

1. Om te beginnen gebruikte ik het patroondeel voor het voorpand dat ik voor mijn eerste versie op patroonpapier tekende, om op het geprinte voorpand van de Breezy uitsparingen te maken in de halslijn, gebaseerd op deze van het Cape Cod patroon.To start with, I used the pattern part for the front panel that I drew on patterned paper for my first version, to make cut-outs in the neckline on the printed front panel of the Breezy Dress, based on that of the Cape Cod pattern.

2. Ik tekende het aangepaste voorpand en het originele achterpand van de Breezy Dress over op de stof, alsook de mouwen. Voor de uitsparingen tekende ik ook bijpassend beleg, zodat ik dit netjes af kon werken. Vervolgens knipte ik alle delen uit.

I copied the modified front and the original back of the Breezy Dress on the fabric, as well as the sleeves. For the cut-outs, I also drew matching lining, so that I could finish this neatly. Then I cut out all the parts.

3. Het naaiwerk kon beginnen! Ik startte met het beleg van de uitsparingen. Ik speldde deze vast met de rechte kanten op elkaar, en stikte zo dicht als kon bij de rand van de stof. Vervolgens keerde ik het beleg naar binnen, knipte de randen aan en stikte dit van bovenaf vast, zodat de uitsparingen netjes afgewerkt waren.

Now for the sewing of my garment! I started with the lining on my cut-outs. I pinned the liner fabric right sides together with the fabric of my front bodice, making sure the raw edges of the liner and the cut-outs were aligned. I stitched as close as possible to the edge of the fabric. Then I turned the lining inside, trimmed the edges and topstitched it so that the cut-outs were neatly finished.

4. Nadien naaide ik de schoudernaad, zette ik de mouwen in en naaide ten slotte de zijnaden van het bovenlijf dicht. Dan restte mij enkel nog de nekband. Ik verdeelde deze eerst in vier delen, zoals steeds, en deed hetzelfde met de neklijn. Bij het voorpand kon ik natuurlijk niet het midden gaan zoeken. Daar speldde ik het voorpand zodanig dat alle stukken symmetrisch kwamen ten opzichte van het midden van de nekband. En toen lockte ik de band vast aan het lijfje.

Afterwards I sewed the shoulder seam, put on the sleeves and finally sewed the side seams of the bodice closed. Then only the neckband remained. I first divided it into four parts, as always, and did the same with the neckline. At the front, of course, I couldn’t go looking for the middle. There I pinned the front pieces so that all the pieces came symmetrical to the center of the neckband. And then I locked the neckband to the bodice.

5. Om de gelockte naad ter hoogte van de uitsparingen weg te werken, besloot ik de naadwaarde niet aan het lijfje vast te stikken, zoals je gewoonlijk doet, maar het naar boven om te slaan en vast te zetten aan de nekband zelf. Op die manier was die naadwaarde niet meer zichtbaar en het geheel mooi afgewerkt.

To get rid of the visible locked seam at the height of the cut-outs, I decided not to topstitch the seam allowance to the bodice, as you usually do, but to flip it up and secure it to the neckband itself. That way the seam allowance was no longer visible and the whole bodice was nicely finished.

6. Ten slotte zette ik ook het rokdeel in elkaar en zette dit vast aan het lijfje, gewoon zoals de handleiding van de Breezy Dress het voorstelt. Klaar!
Deze stof haalde ik op de webshop van Driessen.nl (niet meer verkrijgbaar).

Finally, I also put the skirt part together and attached it to the bodice, just as the manual of the Breezy Dress suggests. Ready!

Finale/FINALS

Nu was het tijd om het kleedje echt te gaan namaken. Eens de stoffen gekozen, kortte ik het bovenlijf van het kleedje nog een beetje in. Ik tailleerde het ook nog een tikkeltje meer. Om te voorkomen dat de rok het topje naar beneden trekt, naaide ik Framilonband mee in de taillenaad. Zo blijft alles netjes op z’n plek. En had ik opnieuw een geslaagd ‘pinspired’ kleedje 🙂

Now the time had come to really imitate the dress. Once the fabrics had been chosen, I shortened the bodice a little. I also took it in a little at the waist. To prevent the skirt from pulling the top down, I sewed Framilon tape in the waist seam. This way everything stays in its place. And again I have a successful ‘pinspired’ dress 🙂
