Striped Solis

Na het naaien van een Solis voor mezelf, wou Hanne er ook graag eentje. En bovendien wou ook een van mijn collega’s het patroon voor dames eens uitproberen. Alleen durfde ze niet goed, omdat ze nog niet echt veel ervaring heeft met naaien.
Geen probleem, aangezien ik me als juf toch moest gaan verdiepen in het werken met instructiefilmpjes, ging ik aan de slag.
Ik maakte filmpjes van het knippen van de patroondelen, en nadien per stapje – beginnend bij het lijfje – een filmpje om alles in elkaar te zetten. Inclusief een rok mét zakken.

After sewing a Solis for myself, Hanne also wanted one. In addition, one of my colleagues also wanted to try out the women’s pattern. But she was doubting, because she does not really have much experience with sewing yet.
No problem, because as a teacher I had to go deeper into working with instructional videos, so I went to work.
I made videos of cutting the pattern parts, and then step by step – starting at the bodice – a movie to put everything together. Including a skirt with pockets.

Leerrijk voor mij als juf, en leuk voor Hanne die opnieuw een kleedje rijker is. 🙂

Educational for me as a teacher, and nice for Hanne who now has an new dress. 🙂

Met die vrolijke streepjes zijn we helemaal klaar om deze zomer een dagje naar zee te gaan, als dat ten minste al opnieuw zal mogen… Maar hij kan natuurlijk ook gewoon aan als het lekker warm is in eigen tuin 🙂

This is the version with circle skirt, with pockets. Just like the Solis for women, this pattern has a clear manual. I made size 6 years, length 7 years.
With those cheerful stripes, we are ready for a day at the beach this summer, if that is allowed again … But of course it can also be worn when it is nice and warm in our own garden 🙂

Ik was er van overtuigd dat ik aan dit patroon reeds een blogpost had besteed, maar dat bleek niet zo. Even schade inhalen dus!

I was convinced that I had already posted a blog post about this pattern, but that turned out not to be the case. So here I go!

Hazel is een heel leuk patroon van een kleedje voor meisjes van Bel’Etoile. Ik wist dat ik deze zou gaan maken zodra ik het voor het eerst tegenkwam op instagram. Vooral omdat ik de versie met rokdeel in twee stroken er zo leuk vind uitzien. Maar ook omdat dit patroon zoveel opties biedt. Wie wil, print enkel wat nodig is. Ik printte echter alles af, want ik ga zeker ook nog andere versies proberen.
Maar ik maakte dus eerst de versie met korte mouwen en het rokdeel met twee stroken.

Hazel is a very nice pattern of a dress for girls from Bel’Etoile. I knew I was going to make it as soon as I first came across it on instagram. Especially since I like the two-tiered skirt so much. But also because this pattern offers so many options. Who wants, only prints what is needed. However, I printed everything, because I will certainly also try other versions.
But first I made the version with short sleeves and the skirt part with two tiers.

Bij mijn meisjes een grote hit!
Dat resulteerde dan ook in een heerlijke fotoshoot. Wat een geluk dat we tijdens deze lockdown light nog mogen wandelen. Zo ontdekken we toch mooie plekjes op wandelafstand, waar we voorheen niet voldoende oog voor hadden…
En ik werd al helemaal gelukkig toen ik merkte dat de kersenbloesems volop bloeiden. Onverwachts een prachtige locaties, met een heerlijk warme lentezon die avond… Alle ingrediënten voor een tof uitje met mijn twee dochters, waar ik dankzij deze foto’s nog heerlijk kan van nagenieten.

That resulted in a wonderful photo shoot. How lucky that we can still walk during this lockdown light. This way we discover beautiful places within walking distance, where we previously did not have enough attention for …
And I became completely happy when I noticed that the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Unexpectedly a beautiful location, with a lovely warm spring sun that evening … All the ingredients for a great outing with my two daughters, which I can still enjoy afterwards thanks to these photos.

Nothing but bottoms

Hoog tijd om eens een uitdaging aan te gaan! Ik stel het al héél lang uit: een broek naaien voor mezelf. Dat heeft veel te maken met mijn maten. Want vooraleer je kan gaan naaien, moet je natuurlijk een patroon hebben dat je past. Wanneer ik de matentabel van zo’n patroon bekijk, dan valt meteen op dat er een heel groot verschil zit tussen mijn taille (S) en mijn heupen en billen (L/XL). Dus dat betekent dat geen enkel patroon voor mij kant en klaar is… Ik ben het intussen wel gewend om patronen van topjes en kleedjes aan te passen, maar een broek…

Time to take on a challenge! I’ve been putting it off for a long time: sewing pants for myself. That has a lot to do with my sizes. Because before you can start sewing, you must of course have a pattern that suits you. When I look at the size table of such a pattern, I immediately notice that there is a very big difference between my waist (S) and my hips and buttocks (L / XL). So that means that no pattern is ready for me … I am used to changing patterns of tops and dresses, but pants …

Zoals je intussen kan raden, heb ik het er toch op gewaagd. Voor de ‘Nothing-but-bottoms-promo’ van Ellie&Mac ging ik uit mijn comfortzone. Ik ging met twee patronen aan de slag, en wilde één en ander uitproberen. Het voordeel van werken met tricot: geen ritsen en knopen. Met andere woorden: eens het naaiwerk van start gaat, is het een eitje…
Ik koos voor mijn ‘bottoms’ het patroon van de Not-So-Basic-Pants. In dit patroon zitten twee varianten: een ‘legging-style’ broek, en een broek met wijde pijpen. Ik maakte in eerste instantie beide versies, uit nieuwsgierigheid wat best bij mij zou passen. Hoewel ik er vrij zeker van was dat vooral de broek met wijde pijpen mijn genre zou zijn. Een nauwaansluitend model heeft immers de neiging om net dat te gaan accentueren wat ik angstvallig probeer te verbergen. Toch moet ik toegeven dat ik over beide varianten tevreden ben, ik ben blij dat ik ze beide heb geprobeerd. Zoals ik verwachtte, voel ik me wel het meest comfortabel bij de broek met wijde pijpen.

As you can guess in the meantime, I dared to do it. For Ellie & Mac’s ‘Nothing-but-bottoms promo’, I left my comfort zone. I started working with two patterns, and wanted to try something out. The advantage of working with jersey: no zippers and buttons. In other words, once sewing starts, it’s a breeze …
For my bottoms I chose the pattern of the Not-So-Basic-Pants. There are two variants in this pattern: legging-style pants and wide-leg pants. Initially I made both versions, out of curiosity what would suit me best. Although I was pretty sure that especially the wide leg pants would be my genre. After all, a tight-fitting model tends to accentuate just that which I anxiously try to hide. Still, I have to admit I’m satisfied with both variants, I’m glad I tried them both. As I expected, I feel most comfortable with the wide leg pants.

Het naaien van die broeken ging verbazend vlot en snel! Op minder dan een kwartier was zo’n broek af, gezoomd en alles! Dat zorgde ervoor dat ik in totaal op twee dagen tijd, tussen lesgeven aan mijn kinderen, huishouden en eigen werk door, maar liefst vier broeken naaide!
Ik moet toegeven dat ik wel heel wat tijd heb besteed vooraf aan het patroon, waar ik moest gaan ‘blenden’. Maar blijkbaar is dat goed gelukt, want mijn probeerversie was meteen een draagbaar stuk!

Sewing those pants went amazingly smoothly and quickly! In less than fifteen minutes, my trousers were finished, hemmed and everything! That made me sew a total of four trousers in two days, between teaching my children, housekeeping and work!
I have to admit that I spent a lot of time in advance on the pattern, where I had to ‘blend’. But apparently that worked out well, because my trial version was immediately a wearable piece!

In mijn winkelkarretje stak ik onlangs het pas uitgekomen Summer Nights patroon. Deze combineert een broek (met steekzakken) met een top. Ik zag al heel wat leuke versies de revue passeren, en had van de stof waarvan ik mijn broeken maakte steeds nog een flinke lap over… Dus maakte ik naast vier broeken ook nog eens drie topjes. Ook deze zitten erg snel in elkaar. Het is een raglan-model waarbij je in de neklijn een tunnel naait en elastiek doorvoert. Een heupband er aan, en klaar!
Bij de top heb je keuze uit korte mouwen of lange wijde mouwen met een mouwboord (bishop-sleeves).
Nu ik over mijn angst voor broeken heen ben (althans voor stretch-stoffen), zal ik zeker ook de broek met steekzakken eens gaan maken! Ik heb de smaak te pakken 🙂

In my shopping cart I recently put the newly released Summer Nights pattern. This combines pants (with side pockets) with a top. I already saw a lot of nice versions passing by, and I still had a large piece of the fabric that I made my trousers from … So I made three tops in addition to four trousers. These are also very quickly put together. It is a raglan model in which you sew a tunnel in the neckline and put on elastic. A waistband attached, and ready!
For the top you have a choice between short sleeves or long wide sleeves with a cuff (bishop sleeves).
Now that I have overcome my fear of trousers (at least for stretch fabrics), I will certainly also make the pants with side pockets! I have a taste for it 🙂

Be Graceful

De Be Graceful Dress van Ellie&Mac heeft een update gehad.
Dit is geen nieuw patroon, maar een patroon dat werd hertest en verder op punt gezet.
Zo werd onder andere manier waarop je het rokdeel aan het bovenlijfje vastzet aangepast. Dat betekent dat ook de handleiding helemaal is vernieuwd.
Met de nieuwe methode naai je een tunnel waar je rekker doorheen trekt, wat voor een veel mooiere pasvorm zorgt en gelijkmatiger rimpels ter hoogte van de taille. Zo krijg je veel minder de ‘ik-zie-er-zwanger-uit’-look die je soms verkrijgt wanneer je een rokdeel rimpelt en dan aanzet….
Verder werden de patroondelen van zowel de rok als het lijfje aangepast (een tikkeltje smaller gemaakt, zodat het mooier aansluit) en de lengte van de mouwen werd ook geperfectioneerd.

Ellie & Mac’s Be Graceful Dress has had an update.
This is not a new pattern, but one that has been retested and refined.
For example, the way you attach the skirt part to the bodice was adjusted. This means that the manual has also been completely renewed.
With the new method you sew a casing through which you pull elastic, which ensures a much nicer fit and more even gathers at the waist. This way you get less of the ‘look-pregnant’ look that you sometimes get when you gather a skirt and then attach it ….
Furthermore, the pattern parts of both the skirt and the bodice were adjusted (made a little narrower, so that it fits better) and the length of the sleeves was also perfected.

Ik maakte er ineens drie!

I made three of them!

De donkerblauwe is eigenlijk een heerlijke winter-fleece met paardenbloem-pluisjes-print. De binnenkant is ultra-zacht! Ik maakte deze met lange mouwen, zodat ik een leuk winterkleedje heb!

The dark blue one is actually a lovely winter fleece with a dandelion fluff print. The inside is ultra-soft! I made this with long sleeves, so I have a nice winter dress!

De tweede maakte ik in een heerlijk retro-look stofje. Ik dacht eerlijk gezegd dat dit helemaal niet bij mij zou passen, maar ik vind het resultaat echt tof geworden! Alleen balen toen ik foto’s had gemaakt, en dan pas een typische beginners-fout opmerkte… Ik naaide zo enthousiast (en gezien beperkte naaitijd – dit was pré-corona-tijdperk – ook wel een beetje haastig) dat het voorpand van het rokdeel onderste boven zit… Ik weet het, had ik het niet gezegd, je had het wellicht niet eens opgemerkt… Maar jij weet dan weer dat eens je het zelf hebt opgemerkt, je nooit nog helemaal tevreden kan zijn met je werk…
Fout of niet, toch zal ik deze zeker dragen!

The second I made in a lovely retro-look fabric. I honestly thought that this would not suit me at all, but I really like the result! I was a bit disappointed when I saw the pictures I took, and only then noticed a typical beginner mistake … I sewed so enthusiastically (and given limited sewing time – this was pre-corona era – a bit hasty too) that the front panel of the skirt part is upside down … I know, if I wouldn’t have said it, you might not even have noticed … But then again you know that once you have noticed it yourself, you can never be completely satisfied with your work. ..
Wrong or not, I will definitely wear it!

En dan tenslotte nog een derde versie, klaar voor de lente! Deze keer met 3/4 mouwen.
Ik naaide in tijden niet met zwart-wit, dus deze vond ik dan nog best ‘classy’ 🙂
Het stofje kocht ik in de webshop van Driessen en is een jersey piqué. Geen strijkwerk aan!

And finally a third version, ready for spring! This time with 3/4 sleeves.
I did not sew with black and white in ages, so I found it became quite ‘classy’ 🙂

O ja, zoals je reeds hebt gemerkt: zakken zijn inbegrepen bij dit patroon!
Waar wacht je nog op? Met dit patroon kan je heel wat kanten uit!
Je kiest voor een rok tot op de knie of een maxi-rok, en je hebt de keuze voor korte mouwen, 3/4 mouwen en lange mouwen. Combineer dat met zomer- of winterstoffen, en je maakt flatterende kleedjes voor elk seizoen!

Oh yes, as you have already noticed: pockets are included with this pattern!
What are you waiting for? You can go in many directions with this pattern!
You choose a knee-length skirt or a maxi skirt, and you have the choice of short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves and long sleeves. Combine that with summer or winter fabrics, and you make flattering dresses for every season!

Sweetie – Hack

Eerst en vooral welkom aan alle nieuwe volgers, dat zijn er behoorlijk wat! Heel fijn dat jullie meelezen 🙂

First and foremost welcome to all new followers, there are quite a few! Very nice that you read along 🙂

Ik kocht onlangs een mooie geruite gebreide stof op het stoffencircus te Gent, begin december. Misschien hebben jullie dat ook wel eens, dat je meteen voor ogen hebt wat het moet worden? Dat had ik alvast bij deze stof. Het zou zeker en vast een Sweetie Tunic &Dress van Ellie&Mac worden. Maar omdat het winter is, had ik zin een een kraag. Dus even gegoogled hoe je dat zoal kan aanpakken, en dan aan de slag gegaan.

I recently bought a nice checkered knit fabric at the fabric circus in Ghent at the beginning of December. Perhaps you have experienced that too, that you immediately realize what a fabric should become? That is exactly what happened with this fabric. It just had to be a Sweetie Tunic & Dress from Ellie & Mac. But because it is winter, I felt like it needed a cowl. So I just googled how you can handle that, and then got started.

Jammer genoeg had ik onvoldoende stof voor een kleedje, maar een tuniek ging er, mits wat puzzelwerk, wel uit!
Ik koos de versie met een dieper uitgesneden halslijn.

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough fabric for a dress, but I was able to get a tunic out of it, provided some puzzling!
I chose the version with a deeper cut neckline.

Voor de coll mat ik eerst de neklijn, eens ik de schoudernaden had gestikt. Bij dat resultaat voegde ik 2,5 cm (1 inch) toe voor de lengte van de rechthoek die ik ging knippen. De breedte is 25 cm (9.8 inch), meer kreeg ik er niet uit…

For the cowl I first measured the neckline, once I stitched the shoulder seams. With that result I added 2.5 cm (1 inch) for the length of the rectangle that I was going to cut. The width is 25 cm (9.8 inch), I couldn’t get more out of the left-over fabric…

Om de kraag vast te zetten, naaide ik de korte zijdes aan mekaar (rechte kanten tegen elkaar aan), zoals je bij een normale nekboord doet. Dan vouwde ik de boord over de lengte doormidden, met de verkeerde kanten op elkaar (nog steeds zoals je bij een normale nekboord zou doen dus). Ik verdeelde zowel de halslijn als de boord in vier met naalden en speldde de boord vast met de goede kant tegen de goede kant van het lijfje aan. Stikken, en klaar!
Eigenlijk dus net zoals je gewoonlijk een boord stikt…
Verder gewoon het patroon volgen, zo eenvoudig is het!

To secure the collar, I sewed the short sides together (straight sides against each other), as you would with a normal neckband. Then I folded the band in half lengthwise, with the wrong sides on top of each other (still like you would with a normal neckband). I divided both the neckline and the band into fours with needles and pinned it with the right side against the right side of the bodice. Stitch, and done!
In fact, just like you usually sew a regular neckband …
Furthermore, just follow the pattern, it’s that simple!

Voor de afwerking zette ik aan de zoom onderaan wel een sierbandje met lusjes. Ik had precies genoeg over voor dit project (ik had niet 1 cm te veel…!). Zo verloor ik geen lengte meer, net wat ik wou!
Sinds ik het af heb, heb ik deze lange top al meermaals gedragen, en ik weet nu al dat er nog zullen volgen!

To finish it off, I used a decorative band with loops at the bottom hem. I had exactly enough left for this project (I didn’t have 0.5″ too much …!). That way I didn’t lose extra length, just what I wanted!
I have worn this long top several times since I finished it, and I already know that more of these will follow!

Maar de omkeerbare bolero die ik net heb geknipt, gaat perfect passen bij de Play Date Dress die ik gisteren heb afgewerkt! Hou mijn blog in de gaten 😉

Now quickly finish a bolero (short cardigan) for New Year’s Eve, less than 24 hours to go!
But the reversible bolero that I just cut is going to fit perfectly with the Play Date Dress that I finished yesterday! Keep an eye on my blog 😉
