Striped Solis

Na het naaien van een Solis voor mezelf, wou Hanne er ook graag eentje. En bovendien wou ook een van mijn collega’s het patroon voor dames eens uitproberen. Alleen durfde ze niet goed, omdat ze nog niet echt veel ervaring heeft met naaien.
Geen probleem, aangezien ik me als juf toch moest gaan verdiepen in het werken met instructiefilmpjes, ging ik aan de slag.
Ik maakte filmpjes van het knippen van de patroondelen, en nadien per stapje – beginnend bij het lijfje – een filmpje om alles in elkaar te zetten. Inclusief een rok mÊt zakken.

After sewing a Solis for myself, Hanne also wanted one. In addition, one of my colleagues also wanted to try out the women’s pattern. But she was doubting, because she does not really have much experience with sewing yet.
No problem, because as a teacher I had to go deeper into working with instructional videos, so I went to work.
I made videos of cutting the pattern parts, and then step by step – starting at the bodice – a movie to put everything together. Including a skirt with pockets.

Leerrijk voor mij als juf, en leuk voor Hanne die opnieuw een kleedje rijker is. 🙂

Educational for me as a teacher, and nice for Hanne who now has an new dress. 🙂

Dit is de versie met cirkelrok, met zakken. Net als de Solis voor dames beschikt dit patroon over een duidelijke handleiding. Ik maakte maat 6 jaar, lengte 7 jaar.
Met die vrolijke streepjes zijn we helemaal klaar om deze zomer een dagje naar zee te gaan, als dat ten minste al opnieuw zal mogen… Maar hij kan natuurlijk ook gewoon aan als het lekker warm is in eigen tuin 🙂

This is the version with circle skirt, with pockets. Just like the Solis for women, this pattern has a clear manual. I made size 6 years, length 7 years.
With those cheerful stripes, we are ready for a day at the beach this summer, if that is allowed again … But of course it can also be worn when it is nice and warm in our own garden 🙂

Ik mocht opnieuw meetesten bij Candy Castle Patterns. Kort, maar krachtig deze keer!
De Snickerdoodle Sweater is een trui met raglanmouwen. Je kan verschillende lengtes kiezen: trui of tuniek. Ook bij de mouwen heb je de keuze tussen lange en korte mouwen.
Optioneel kan je ook een buidelzak toevoegen. Zo heeft dit patroon alles in huis om een eenvoudige trui te naaien, voor jongens of meisjes. Mooi meegenomen, als je het mee vraagt!

I was allowed to test again at Candy Castle Patterns. Short but powerful this time!
The Snickerdoodle Sweater is a sweater with raglan sleeves. You can choose different lengths: sweater or tunic. Also with the sleeves you have the choice between long and short sleeves.
Optionally you can also add a kangaroo pocket. This pattern has everything to sew a simple sweater for boys or girls. A nice bonus, if you ask me!

Ik naaide uiteindelijk tot nog toe drie versies, en ben er nogal zeker van dat er nog versies zullen volgen!

I have sewn three versions so far, and am pretty sure that there will be versions to follow!

Versie 1: maat 6 jaar, verlengd tot maat 7.
Version 1: size 6 years, lengthened to size 7.

Ik naaide voor de jongste een tuniek-versie, zonder meer. Het patroon zit ongelooflijk snel in mekaar! Op minder dan drie kwartier van het knippen van de stof tot een afgewerkte trui! Enkel even opletten wanneer je de zijnaden naait, want als je niet aandachtig bent, naai je het voorpand en achterpand als mouwen. Maar dat is eigen aan elk raglan-naaisel. Ik markeerde daarom het voorpand door er een naald in te spelden middenvoor. Ook binnenin markeerde ik het voorpand met een V, en het achterpand met een A. Geen twijfel meer mogelijk! (Onder het mom van ‘een ezel stoot zich geen twee maal aan dezelfde steen’, want ooit naaide ik dus wel de zijnaden fout, en vroeg me nadien af hoe het kon dat die trui zo smal was…)

I sewed a tunic version for the youngest, a simple version. The pattern is put together incredibly fast! Less than 45 minutes from cutting the fabric to a finished sweater! Just pay attention when sewing the side seams, because if you are not paying attention, you might sew the front and back as sleeves. But that is typical for every raglan project. I therefore marked the front piece by pinning a needle in the center front. Inside I also marked the front with an F, and the back with an B. No doubt possible! (Under the guise of ‘a donkey does not hit the same stone twice’, because sometime I did sew the side seams, and afterwards wondered how it was possible that the sweater was so narrow …)

Version 2: size 7 years, lengthened to size 8.

Natuurlijk naaide ik ook voor de oudste een tuniek! Hier ‘smukte’ ik het geheel wat op door een sierpaspelbandje in de raglannaad vooraan te naaien. Dat geeft de trui net dat tikkeltje extra, altijd leuk toch?

Of course I also sewed a tunic for the oldest! Here I ‘embellished’ everything by sewing a decorative piping band in the front raglan seam. That gives the sweater that little bit extra, always nice right?

En ik had geluk, want mijn dametjes wilden ook graag samen op de foto! Het was echt genieten om ze samen bezig te zien…

And I was lucky, because my ladies were up for pictures of them together! I enjoyed them playing around for pictures so much…

Ik maakte een trui voor mezelf (binnenkort meer daarover), en had nog heel wat stof over. Dus ging ik met de overschot aan de slag en maakte er een SnickerDoodle Sweater van 🙂
Kunnen we lekker twinnen 🙂

I made a sweater for myself (more on that soon), and still had a lot of fabric left. So I went to work with the surplus and made it into a SnickerDoodle Sweater 🙂
Now we can twin! 🙂

Deze keer naaide ik dus de sweaterlengte, en voegde ik er de buidelzak aan toe. Ik paste echter een kleine hack toe, door de bandjes te rimpelen, voor een meer meisjesachtige look. Ik knipte daarvoor het patroondeel ervan op de stofvouw, zodat die dubbel zo lang werden. Nadien vouwde ik de stof over de lengte, met de rechte kanten op elkaar, en stikte de zijnaden (korte zijdes). Dan draaide ik de band met de goede kant naar buiten toe, en stikte rimpeldraden. Na het rimpelen, zette ik de banden vast aan de buidel met de overlockmachine. Normaalgezien rek je die band uit, zodat deze mooi plat valt als je de buidel op het voorpand stikt. Dat kon nu niet, door de rimpeldraden. Daardoor valt de band dus niet helemaal mooi plat, maar ik vind het resultaat toch best geslaagd.
Tips om dit beter te maken, zijn steeds welkom!
Ik ga proberen het bij deze versie op te lossen door er nog transparante elastiek tegen te stikken aan de achterzijde.
Bij een volgende versie overweeg ik om de band iets dunner te maken, en het rimpelen aan de hand van een elastiek te doen, zodat het mooi elastisch blijft. Maar ik weet niet of dit de beste methode is, dus als je er een betere weet, geef gerust een reactie!

So this time I sewed the sweater length and added the pouch. However, I applied a small hack, by gathering the bands, for a more girlish look. To do so, I cut the pattern part of the pocket band on the fabric fold, so that they became twice as long. Afterwards I folded the fabric along the length, with the straight sides together, and stitched the side seams (short sides). Then I turned the band with the right side out and stitched gathering threads. After gathering, I fastened the straps to the pouch with the overlock machine. Normally you stretch that band, so that it falls nicely flat when you attach the pouch to the front. That was not possible now, because of the gathering threads. As a result, the band is not completely flat, but I think the result is still quite successful.
Tips to make this better are always welcome!
I am going to try to solve it with this version by stitching transparent elastic on the back of the band.
In the next version I consider making the band a little thinner and gathering it with elastic, so that it stays nice and stretchable. But I don’t know if this is the best method, so if you know a better one, feel free to comment!

Penelope Panties

Eens iets helemaal anders, en geen aan-foto’s deze keer 🙂

Ik maakte het gloednieuwe patroon van Annelaine Patterns, de Penelope Panties.

I made the brand new pattern from Annelaine Patterns, the Penelope Panties.

Als je veel naait, heb je ook heel wat stofrestjes… Dit patroon zorgt ervoor dat ook die restjes nog kunnen dienen! Op de foto de gewone versie, maar je kan ook de colorblocked versie naaien, om zelfs nog kleinere restjes te verwerken!

If you sew a lot, you also have a lot of fabric scraps … This pattern ensures that those scraps can still serve! On the photo the normal version, but you can also sew the colorblocked version, to process even smaller scraps!

Niet echt moeilijk, de grootste uitdaging zit hem in het aanzetten van de elastiekbanden. Maar je kan ook kiezen voor banden, iets eenvoudiger. Dan gebruik je gewoon hetzelfde principe als bij het aanzetten van een nekboord.

Not really difficult, the biggest challenge lies in sewing on the elastic bands. But you can also opt for bands, something easier. Then you just use the same principle as when putting on a neckband.

70’s Top

Een nieuw patroon voor meisjes van Ellie&Mac: de 70’s-top. Dit dromerige shirt bestaat uit een voering, met daarover een doorzichtige laag stretch kant of mesh. Zowel voorpand als achterpand bestaan uit twee delen, waarvan het onderste deel gerimpeld zijn. Vooraan is dit V-vormig, achteraan recht. Dit geeft de mogelijkheid om te werken met een elastische paspel of sierbandjes tussenin. De voering bestaat uit een 1-delig voor-en achterpand.
Voor de mouwen kan je kiezen uit korte mouwen of lange, en je kan deze al dan niet voeren.
Ik hield het echter simpel, en maakte telkens de versie zonder gevoerde mouwen (heerlijk zomers).

A new pattern for girls from Ellie & Mac: the 70’s top. This dreamy shirt consists of a lining with a transparent layer of stretch lace or mesh over it. Both the front and the back overlay have two parts, a yoke and underneath a gathered piece. This is V-shaped at the front, straight at the rear. This gives the possibility to work with an elastic piping or decorative bands in between. The lining consists of a 1-piece front and back.
For the sleeves, you can choose from short sleeves or long ones, and you can line them or not.
However, I kept it simple and made the version without lined sleeves (wonderfully summery).

Ik maakte voor Hanne maat 5 jaar qua breedte, 6 jaar qua lengte.
Voor Laure maakte ik maat 7 jaar qua breedte, 8 jaar qua lengte.
De resultaten zien jullie hieronder.
De versies met blauwe voering (uni-tricot van stoffen.net) en witte stretch-kant/voile zijn eigenlijk mijn testversies.
De versie met witte voering (lycra) en donkerblauwe mesh met bloemen is de finale versie.

For Hanne I made size 5 years in width, 6 years in length.
For Laure I made size 7 years in width, 8 years in length.
You can see the results below.
The versions with blue lining (plain-knit fabric from stoffen.net) and white stretch lace / voile are actually my test versions.
The version with white lining (lycra) and dark blue mesh with flowers is the final version.

En nog een derde, wat kleurrijker top!

And yet a third, more colourful, top!

Het patroon op zich is eenvoudig te maken. Het naaien van stretch-kant of mesh vraagt wel wat handigheid en geduld. Veel speldjes steken is de boodschap!

The pattern itself is easy to create. Sewing stretch lace or mesh requires some skill and patience. Using a lot of pins is the message!

Voor het eerst mocht ik testen bij Petite Stitchery, hieronder vinden jullie mijn bevindingen!

For the first time I was allowed to test at Petite Stitchery & Co, below you will find my findings.

Voor mijn testversie gebruikte ik stoffen van Dresowka. Het rokdeel van Cotton Jersey, woog te zwaar door, dus heb ik de bandjes gekruist over de rug en vastgemaakt aan het achterpand van het lijfje voor meer draagkracht. Zo snijdt het ook niet in de nek door het gewicht van het rokdeel en eindig ik met een draagbaar jurkje. Hanne blij, want geel is haar lievelingskleur!
En ik leerde bij dat je best zeer lichte tricot gebruikt voor het rokdeel, zodat het niet te zwaar gaat trekken.

I used Dresowka fabrics for my test version. The skirt part of Cotton Jersey weighed too heavily, so I crossed the straps over the back and attached it to the back of the bodice for more carrying capacity. This way it is easier on the neck, less chance it burns and cuts because of the weight of the skirt part and this way I end up with a wearable dress. Hanne happy, because yellow is her favorite color!

And I learned that it is best to use very light jersey for the skirt part, so that it does not pull too heavily.

Voor mijn tweede versie ging ik aan de slag met ZNOK-stoffen (meer bepaald ZNOK Violets Purple), gekocht bij Hazeltjes stoffen (niet meer beschikbaar in deze kleur, maar wel nog hier te vinden).
Ik vrolijkte het geheel nog wat op met een sierbandje (gekocht bij Kleurenmix.nl) als binding en elastische paspel (gekocht bij de Stoffengalerij.be) tussen het lijfje en het rokdeel. Dit is maat 4 jaar qua breedte, en het rokdeel maakte ik op breedte 5 jaar, lengte 6 jaar.

For my second version I started working with ZNOK fabrics, purchased at Hazeltjes fabrics.

I cheered it up a bit with a decorative band as a binding and elastic piping between the bodice and the skirt part. This is size 4 years in width, and I made the skirt part in width 5 years, length 6 years.

Voor Laure naaide ik de Crop Top in maat 7 jaar voor de breedte, en maat 8 jaar voor lengte.
Ik gebruikte de overschot ZNOKstof en uni-tricot van stoffen.net. Ik werkte ook hier af met een sierbandje.
Laure wilde al een tijd een maxi-rok, dus tekende ik er zelf eentje (geïnspireerd door het gratis patroon van Bel’etoile). Het werd een rimpelrok met elastische tailleband.

For Laure I sewed the Crop Top in size 7 years for the width, and size 8 years for the length.

I used the surplus ZNOK fabric and uni-coloured Jersey from fabric.net. I also used a decorative band for a nice finishing touch.

Laure had wanted a maxi skirt for a while, so I drew one myself (inspired by the free Bel’etoile pattern). It became a gathered skirt with an elastic waistband.

De crop top zit in ongeveer een half uurtje in elkaar en is eenvoudig te maken. Het werken met binding is even een handigheidje. Wanneer je het zelf knipt, kost het iets meer tijd en geef ik als tip mee om vooral bij het strijken nauwgezet te werk te gaan. Wanneer je dit grondig doet, is al meer dan de helft van het werk gedaan! Of je kiest voorgevormde elastische biais of een sierbandje zoals ik deed bij mijn finale versie.

The crop top is assembled in about half an hour and is easy to make. Working with binding is just a trick. If you cut it yourself, it will take a little more time and I will give you a tip to be careful when ironing. If you do this thoroughly, more than half of the work has already been done! Or you choose preformed elastic biais or a decorative band like I did with my final version.

Voor het kleedje voeg je er in plaats van de tailleband het rokdeel aan toe. Dat bestaat uit drie panden. ÉÊn achterpand en twee voorpanden waarmee je vooraan een overslag creÃĢert. Je kan er optioneel ook zakken aan toevoegen, die in het patroon inbegrepen zijn. En uiteraard kan je kiezen tussen verschillende lengtes voor het kleedje!

For the dress you add the skirt part instead of the waistband. It consists of three panels. One back and two fronts with which you create a wrap at the front. You can optionally also add pockets that are included in the pattern. And of course you can choose between different lengths for the skirt!

Verder is er ook een damesversie beschikbaar. Hello, mommy-and-me-outfits! En door de hoge tailleband en het gedubbelde voorpand kan je dit kleedje dragen zonder BH!

Dit is hÊt patroon voor de zomer, laat de zon maar komen!

There is also a women’s version available. Hello, mommy-and-me-outfits! And because of the high waistband and the doubled front you can wear this dress without a bra!

 

This is the pattern for the summer, let the sun come!
